Ram Gopal Director-producer Ram Gopal Varma, known for making small budget films, says had he made movies with the thought of minting Rs.100 crore at the box office, he wouldn't have been able to make films like "Kaun?" and "Satya".

"I think cost is more the producers' and distributors' concern. If I think of Rs.100 crore, I would have never made 'Kaun?' or 'Satya'. It's a completely different ball game, and it works very well for the people who are into it. I don't think cinema in that terms, " Varma told INAS.

The filmmaker, who is gearing up for the release of his horror film "Bhoot Returns", says there's a huge demand for the genre.

"I don't think it's about me making (horror films). I also feel people want to see horror films. In DVD stores there are huge racks of horror films, (so) that means there are too many people who enjoy horror films."

"People predominantly want to see horror films because they want to be scared, " he added.

"Bhoot Returns" will release with Rani Mukerji's "Aiyyaa" Oct 12, but Varma is not concerned.

"Releasing a film is not my concern, I am just a maker. The release date decision is taken by the distributors and other people related to the film, " he added.

"Bhoot Returns" features Manisha Koirala, J.C. Chakravarthy and Alayana Sharma.

Jab TakThis one truly carries the Yash Chopra stamp! Picturesque locales, intense poetry, enviable costumes, Shah Rukh Khan's dimpled cheeks, his passionate lover avatar, teamed with Katrina Kaif's flawless beauty, and Anushka Sharma's effervescence -- the trailer of "Jab Tak Hai Jaan" regales with all this, and leaves fans guessing what's in store.

The trailer, released online at 1 p.m. Thursday, was viewed by over 2, 30, 000 views on YouTube within two hours."It looks like the movie of the decade is coming... oh tiger; King is back... and that also with a bang, " a fan named Ravi posted on the trailer's link.

Shah Rukh plays an army man named Samar in the film. He looks dapper as usual, but it is undoubtedly his loverboy smile that leaves the endearing touch. Add to that Katrina's chic looks and Anushka's bubbly, cheerful and energy-packed demeanour -- the film surely looks inviting, and expects to bring audiences to theatres in huge numbers upon its release Nov 13.

The trailer opens with Shah Rukh dressed in an army man's uniform, riding a bike in the breathtaking landscapes of Ladakh. And Gulzar's deep poetry adds to the beauty of the backdrop.

Scenes of Katrina in floral gowns and Shah Rukh's intense gaze at her on London's streets give the touch of romance, as do his parts with Anushka amid the scenic beauty of Kashmir.

There is drama, love, passion and the trailer hints at a sense of vengeance in Shah Rukh's character, who walks amid random bombings towards the end. It looks like a case of a classic Love triangle, but leaves a lot more to guess.

"Jab Tak Hai Jaan" is special for many reasons -- it marks the return of Yash Chopra to direction after seven years after "Veer-Zaara", Shah Rukh's trademark romantic avatar, and it has Gulzar's inimitable poetry, Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman's melodies and shots from Kashmir.

Bhoot ReturnsFilmmaker Ram Gopal Varma scared the wits out of people with 2003 film "Bhoot" and he's set to repeat the feat with "Bhoot Returns". He reveals he has shot the 3D movie at a haunted house.

Varma chose a house in Mumbai for the shoot. The first owner of the house had committed suicide in the premises. The current owner willingly gave the house to Varma for the shoot with a promise of not giving out the address of the house in the movie or the media.

The cast of the movie got quite spooked after Varma told them that it was a haunted house. They used to try and stay together for night shoots.

"We got to know the house has a history after we started Shooting for the movie. The cast and crew did get a little spooked and scared when they came to know that someone had committed suicide in that house. I, for myself, was too busy trying to scare so never got time to get scared myself, " Varma said in a statement.

"Bhoot Returns" marks the comeback of actress Manisha Koirala in Bollywood. The film also features J.D. Chakravarthy, Madhu Shalini, and Alayana Sharma. It is due to release Oct 12.

BarfiFilm: "Barfi"; Cast: Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Ileana d'Cruz; Director: Anurag Basu; Rating: ****

Silences seldom spoke so eloquently. It's been a while since we saw a film that set style at a subsidiary state to substance, put the characters' inner life ahead of the flamboyant manifestations of self-identity in a world governed by benevolence and charm.

"Barfi!" is a very charming film. It's remarkably devoid of vanity. The story of a deaf-and-mute man who could have grown up watching Chaplin and Raj Kapoor's cinema, and an autistic girl who has definitely not seen Shah Rukh Khan in "My Name Is Khan", is told without the props of a loud background music and other prompters to get audiences' involved in the proceedings.

This is a picaresque world of artless charm which invites you in without band baaja or baaraati. Fanfare is for the circus. "Barfi!" is pure cinema.

Goodness! I am already gushing. It's the narcotic effect that Barfi has on you. Within no time at all you are swept into the protagonist's world, the two lovely women who breeze in and out of his existence and various other characters, all etched with a compassion and vividness that one associates with the cinema of Frank Capra and Ritwik Ghatak.

"Barfi!" exudes the warm glow of a life well lived. This dazzling glow originates from the protagonist Barfi who lives his life king-size with many Chapliesque comic antics creating a chain of comicbook adventures for our happy-go-looking hero, even though he can't speak or hear. But then speech was always supposed to be the least essential component of cinema. Ask Ingmar Bergman or Satyajit Ray. Their character spoke through lingering silences.

It's been a while since any protagonist on screen said so much to us without speaking. Rani Mukerji in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Black" said it all through her muted mode of communication. But she had the formal sign language plus a voiceover for articulate support.

Significantly Anurag Basu, a master storyteller (and never mind the tormenting tepidity of his last film "Kites") does away with the crutches of a sign language and a voiceover.

Ranbir Kapoor as Barfi or Murphy whatever!...is left to his own devices. An incredibly enterprising actor, he brings a Chaplinesque aura to Barfi's character. Blending a very physical pie-in-the-face style of comic acting with an intangible poignancy, Ranbir turns his character and the film into a muted celebration of life. The tears are hidden from view. But they are there.

His grandfather, Raj Kapoor, has never been very far from Ranbir's acting skills. Raj Kapoor was highly influenced by Chaplin. Ranbir brings both the legends into the same line of vision, and yet creates a character which is unique in its buoyancy and optimism, never mind the sleeping dogs. Just let them bark in their sleep.

Priyanka Chopra as the autistic Jhilmil steals the show from Ranbir, if that's possible. Lately, she has been found to be guilty of overacting in "Agneepath" and "Anjaana Anjaani" (with Ranbir again). In "Barfi!", all her recent sins of excess are washed away.

Priyanka's inherent glamorous personality simply disappears into her character. We don't see the actress on screen at all! We see only Jhilmil who reminds us in a very pleasant way of Sridevi in "Sadma". This is one of the most flawless interpretations of a physical-psychological disability seen on celluloid.

While Ranbir and Priyanka effortlessly prove themselves the best actors of their generation, Ileana D'Cruz makes a confident engaging debut into Hindi cinema. Is she here to stay? Time will tell.

As for Basu, in his earlier films "Gangster - A Love Story" and "Life... In A Metro", he proved himself a maestro of the inner life. "Barfi!" too is shot on location within the hearts of the characters. Not just the memorable protagonists, even the smaller players specially Roopa Ganguly and Akaash Khuruna and Haradhan Bandhopadhyay, leave a lingering impact.

"Barfi!" celebrates life without dismissing the dark passages and roadblocks that we often encounter as we travel through that craggy road to death.

To be able to celebrate life so warmly and sensitively the filmmaker has to know death closely. Basu, a concer survivor, has been there.

"Barfi!" comes as close to being a modern masterpiece as cinematically possible. To miss it would be a crime. To embrace it is to serenade the sublime.

Jab Tak Hai JaanRemember Hema Malini's blockbuster number from Sholay - 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan'? In 1975, Gabbar Singh told Basanti, “Jab tak tere paaon chalenge uski sans chalegi.” And the chammak challo from Sholay danced crazy to the beat of the RD Burman number “Jab tak hai jaan, jaane jahaan, main naachoongi.”

Thirty-seven years later, comes Shah Rukh Khan on a Royal Enfield bike, riding high on his superstar days; almost making a comeback of sorts with his first mentor Yash Chopra’s movie, co-starring his contemporary Salman Khan’s on-and-off-girlfriend Katrina Kaif, in a film by the YRF banner, which shot him to dizzying heights years ago with Darr.

As we all know, it’s been the first time in the history of Bollywood, that a filmmaker had kept the title of his movie ‘under wraps’ till its neared release. Even as a teaser of the movie was out recently with the theatrical release of Ek Tha Tiger, everyone was kept wondering what its title was!

But the cat is finally out of the bag. The Yash Raj Films SRK-Katrina starrer has been titled Jab Tak Hai Jaan, sounding like an ode to the Sholay song, with music for the film composed by AR Rehman.

“Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra were really happy that Hema Malini continued to dance her emotions out with the song in Sholay, ” said Bollywood PR guru Dale Bhagwagar.

“What better title for SRK than one which consolidates his never-ending box-office romp. It aptly compliments his never-say-die attitude, ” said the publicity expert.

Scheduled for a November 13 release, the film, also starring Anushka Sharma in the lead, is believed to be a Love triangle and marks the return of Yash Chopra as a director after a gap of eight years; his last film being Veer-Zaara in 2004.

Meanwhile, there are rumours that the theatrical trailer of Jab Tak Hai Jaan will be released on the filmmaker’s birthday on September 27.

Bipasha BasuFrom a model to a popular Bollywood star, Bipasha Basu's journey hasn't been one without her share of ups and downs. But she has taken every experience in her stride and says she has emerged as an evolved person.

"Today, I am a refined actor, lived a little more life, have seen a lot, handle situations, not just a relationship, career-wise I have fallen down, come up again. I have had my run of relationship crisis, staying away from my parents for a long time, loans to pay at times I didn't know how to pay, " Bipasha told an Oye! 104.8 FM radio channel host.

The 33-year-old made her Bollywood debut in 2001 with "Ajnabee". She was dating Dino Moreo that time, but parted ways with him in 2002. Then she became romantically involved with her "Raaz" co-star John Abraham, whom she dated for around eight years.

Professionally, her career picked up with films like "No Entry", "Dhoom", "Corporate" and "Bachna Ae Haseeno". Her latest release "Raaz 3" received a good opening, and Bipasha is happy the way life has shaped up for her.

"From 1997 to 2012, I've lived a wholesome life, moved from one room to one BHK (bedroom, hall, kitchen) to two BHK sharing with a friend. Then bought a car, but didn't know how to drive and also couldn't afford a driver.

"Finally, my friends ended up driving, so I realised there was no point of buying a car. I had a very broken life, yes sometimes broken down, sometimes very strong, so I feel I am a very evolved human being right now, " she added.

For now, Bipasha awaits the launch of her second fitness DVD, and her debut international project "Singularity", will hit the screens early next year.

Jaane Bhi Do YaaroKundan Shah's 1983 cult film "Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro", a political satire, will be back in theatres Oct 26.

"PVR Director's Rare in association with NFDC (National Film Development Corporation) will be re-releasing the digitally restored version of Kundan Shah's cult classic 'Jaane Bhi Do Yaaroon' on the 26th of October 2012. The film will be re-released pan-India exclusively at PVR Cinemas only, " Shiladitya Bora, head of PVR Director's Rare, told IANS.

The poster for the film's re-release is doing the rounds on social networking sites, with excited fans posting dialogues from the movie, and already making plans for their outing.

Siddharth Raghupatruni, a fan, wrote: "Can't wait to watch this in a hall. Though I have a CD, but still, classic toh classic hota hai (a classic will always be a classic)."

PVR Director's Rare is an alternative programming initiative of PVR Cinemas to support the theatrical release of critically acclaimed, independent films.

When Shah had set out to make the movie, he had applied for a loan of Rs.400, 000. But later, the NFDC decided to fund it.

"The initial budget of the movie was Rs.685, 000, but the production cost went up and finally it was made at a budget of Rs.725, 000, " he had once told IANS.

"Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro" narrated a tale of two simple and honest photographers, essayed by Naseeruddin Shah and Ravi Vaswani. They witness a murder and get dragged into the corrupt real estate circle where politicians and bureaucrats are involved.

The movie, which also featured actors like Pankaj Kapur, Om Puri, Satish Shah, Neena Gupta and Satish Kaushik, is noted for its slapstick humour.
